春です。3月末です。プロ野球が開幕しましたね。
開幕戦は英語で
opening game
opening match
と言います。
openingは「開始」の意味で、gameやmatchは試合です。
It is so hard to get a ticket for the opening game of the baseball season.
(野球のシーズン開幕戦のチケットをとるのはとっても難しいです。)
He looks so happy since his favorite team won the opening match of the season.
(お気に入りのチームが開幕戦に勝ったので、彼はとても幸せそうです。)
gameやmatchを使ってこんな言い方もできます。
the first match/game of the season
I am going to watch the first game of the season on TV tonight.
(今夜は開幕戦をテレビで見ます。)
ちなみに
開幕日はopening day
開幕投手はopening pitcher
開幕スタメンはstarting lineup of the opening game
です。
開幕時の登録選手名簿はOpening Day roster
と言ったりもします。
こんな表現もあります。
season opener
「缶切り」や「栓抜き」の意味もあるopenerは「開けるもの」「開始者」の意味です。
「シーズン」を「開けるもの」で「開幕戦」です。
The team scored 10 runs in the season opener.
(チームは開幕戦で10点取りました。)
season openerは「開幕投手」を指すこともあります。
Shintaro Fujinami served a season opener for Hanshin Tigers two years in a row.
(藤浪晋太郎は阪神タイガースの開幕投手を２年連続で務めました。)
